Cannibal Run

  • Cannibal Run
  • When Simon Morris from Launceston first approached Paddy Pallin to sponsor an expedition entitled Cannibal Run it certainly got our attention.  Simon and 5 fellow bushwalkers planned to re-create Alex Pearce's 1822 arduous journey across the untamed and largely untracked western part of Tasmania from Sarah Island to Ouse.

What made Alex Pearce's journey so infamous was firstly that he was an escaped convict and secondly that to sustain himself through this 49 day bushbash he murdered and ate his 4 fellow escapees.

The Cannibal Run expedition would retrace Pearce's steps including crossing the Braddon River, climbing Mt. Sorell, crossing the Clark and Andrew Rivers, navigate very rough terrain through Engineer Range, swim the mighty Franklin River head over the difficult Deception Range onto Lighting and Loden Plains, climb Mt. Arrowsmith and King William Range and head east to the township of Ouse.

In the Cannibal Run Podcast Simon Morris shares some of the ups and downs of the teams 3 week journey through the wild south west of Tasmania.
